Chris Spurgeon scrive, nella sua newsletter dedicata alle leggi della natura e della tecnologia, della legge di Metcalfe, secondo la quale “L’utilità e il valore di una rete sono proporzionali al quadrato del numero degli utenti”. L’esempio scelto da Spurgeon è quello del Fax:

Back in the 1980s and 90s there were tens of millions of fax machines in use around the world… With the rise of the Internet, and particularly e-mail, the fax machine is less essential to most businesses than it was a couple of decades ago(*). At current rates of decline the extinction of the fax machine can’t be many decades away
