Internet ha riprogrammato il nostro cervello, che oggi ha costantemente bisogno di novità, stimoli o gratificazioni, rendendoci così dipendenti dalle distrazioni. Un articolo del New York Times.

“The net is designed to be an interruption system, a machine geared to dividing attention,” Nicholas Carr explains in his book “The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains.” “We willingly accept the loss of concentration and focus, the division of our attention and the fragmentation of our thoughts, in return for the wealth of compelling or at least diverting information we receive.”

Allo stesso modo, però, la presenza di comportamenti scorretti su internet (come il razzismo) può permettere il dibattito su quegli stessi comportamenti in seno alla società. È quel che sta succedendo in Brasile, dove la discussione sul razzismo sembra essere un tabù.

Criola, a black women’s rights organization, has launched a campaign to denounce racism by republishing offensive comments it finds online, and making them visible to everyone.

After identifying racist posts on Facebook, the Rio de Janeiro-based activist group uses geolocation tools to find the place where they originated. It then displays the offensive comments on billboard sites nearby.
