Wired publica un’introduzione al previsto futuro uso degli insetti come alimento umano, evidenziando i problemi che è possibile prevedere già da ora.

In teoria, produrre una certa quantità di proteine con l’allevamento di insetti richiederebbe meno di un decimo del cibo che adesso diamo alle mucche. In pratica, il passaggio all’allevamento industriale comporterebbe problemi analoghi a quelli che ci troviamo di fronte ora per altri animali, dal nutrirli all’eliminazione degli scarti.

“We think, oh, insects are going to be the silver bullet on protein and nutrition. But what about all this other stuff?” It happened with chicken and it’s currently happening with aquaculture, as people start building huge offshore fish farms and dousing them with antibiotics. It’s possible that the companies working on insects and fish have answers to some of these questions. They’re just not publishing them.
