Quando si chiede alla gente di elencare gli edifici cui è più legata ed affezionata, è quasi certo che non menzionerà nulla di quanto costruito dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

Non è per caso che l’architettura contemporanea non solo non piaccia, ma addirittura susciti sentimenti di violento rifiuto. Dove sono andate storte le cose? Su Current Affairs Brianna Rennix e Nathan J. Robinson  offrono non solo una (lunga) risposta, giustificando ampiamente il sentimento generale del pubblico contro l’architettura contemporanea, ma anche una serie di accorgimenti per cambiare questo stato di cose:

For about 2,000 years, everything human beings built was beautiful, or at least unobjectionable. The 20^th century put a stop to this, evidenced by the fact that people often go out of their way to vacation in “historic” (read: beautiful) towns that contain as little postwar architecture as possible. But why? What actually changed? Why does there seem to be such an obvious break between the thousands of years before World War II and the postwar period? And why does this seem to hold true everywhere?
